Wausau, WI (WSAU)– The Milwaukee Brewers were served an upset yesterday as they took on the New York Yankees. They were shut down by the Yankees 15-3.
The Brewers started the game with pitcher Joe Ross. Ross struggled to find his groove for the 5 innings played. He allowed 8 hits, 7 runs ( 6 of which had been earned), three walks, five strikeouts with a home run, and a hit batter all within the course of his 99 pitches. Pitcher Thyago Veira replaced Ross in the 6th but was not able to do much better. The Yankees batted with 6 batters reaching bases and also were able to pick up 2 run homers, leading 11-1.
Pitcher Jason Junk took over in the 7th and threw for a scoreless inning. He was followed by pitcher Owen Miller who made his mound debut as a pro and opened the game at 3rd base. He went on to get two outs on his first 3 pitches and also had a flyout to cap a scoreless 8th. When the 9th inning came though, Miller surrendered 4 additional runs to the Yankees.
Rhys Hoskins was able to homer in the first inning.
Milwaukee was the only team in the major leagues that remained without a loss by five or more runs.
The Brewers face the Yankees today at 1:10 P.M, with coverage starting at 12:30 on WSAU.
